For our last project we worked with mixed media. I absolutely loved doing this project. At the time we were working on our mixed media art, I was going through a tough spot in my life. I was very sick and I was struggling heavily with mydepression. One night at UNC's hospital left me scared and feeling alone. Another antidepressant was added to my regimine. I was now taking Zoloft and Wellbutrin and felt like a zombie. This project helped me cope. I may not be the best artist, but it helps me more than anything. I can get my frustrations out onto paper and leave them there. They're no longer bottled up inside and no longer destroying me.
I decided to create my mixed media project in an antique book that was titled "Brain and Personality." I thought it was a fitting book because this was going to be an extension of my emotions, thoughts, and personality.
The first page I created was my "fairytale" page. My fairytale is perfection. All of strive for perfection when in actuality it does not exist. In my eyes, the most perfect thing is nature so that is what I decided to portray.
In the middle of the book, I decided to do a page on my fears. I painted with grays, white and black and then on top of those colors I wrote all of my fears with a sliver sharpie. After that I lightly painted ontop of those fears with the same colors in a circular manor.
My last page was "questionable." My future is questionable. I have ideas about what I want to do and where I want to end up, but who knows where I will be. I chose a light house to represent my hope and dreams that will guide me on my way throughout life. I do know one thing, this whole experience has showed me how much I want to be alive to experience life to the fullest.
